The PROMISE Midwifery Campaign initiated by the Fernandez Educational and Research Foundation picked up a lot of steam with the visit of nine doctors and midwives from the UK from 31stJanuary to 5th February 2016. The team conducted a Multidisciplinary Obstetric Maternity Skills (MOMS) Course including a hands-on Workshop for Labour Ward doctors and nurses.
The course, spread over three days at Fernandez Foundation and two days at Rural District Trust Hospital, Ananthapur, was a collaborative effort by FH and ELLY – East London International Women’s Health Appeal.
The course emphasized teamwork and the need to break down barriers between doctors, nurses and midwives. The programme focused on obstetric emergencies and safety. It also aimed at reducing the mortality and morbidity rates. From 91 delegates, including two from Pune, the team identified potential trainers who would extend the training pattern to professionals involved in rural maternity services. The cascading effect would help influence maternity care in government hospitals in Telangana.
